Dr. Thomas Philip, Professor in the Department of Computer Science and
Engineering at Mississippi State University (MSU), USA. He was also
Senior Research Scientist at the Diagnostic Instrumentation and Analysis laboratory
of MSU. He is one of the pioneers in the area of computer automated instrumentation,
especially for high temperature plasma diagnostics. He has done research and development
in the area of information sifting by applying Artificial Intelligence
techniques primarily artificial neural networks
and fuzzy logic. He has also been active in research in Computer
Science education. He is among the first to develop animated digital circuits using
computer graphics for educational purpose and also for developing and using World
Wide Web (Internet) based tool for distant education, as part of his efforts for
“paperless classroom”. He has published over eighty papers based on his research
and developments. He has organized several professional conferences in the areas
of computer applications, and is a member of several professional organizations.
His current areas of interest include software engineering methods and tools and
computer science education. Dr. Philip earned his Ph D in Physics and MS
in Computer Science from MSU and M Sc in Physics form the University of Kerala.
He has been a student for six years and lecturer in Physics for seven years at the
Union Christian College, Aluva.
